Look, if you step back from whatever horseshit the company says about "sharing" or whatever, Lyft provides a really essential service in SF – putting more god damn cabs (or cab-like things) on the road. The cab companies have had a stranglehold on the business forever. I took a Lyft from my house yesterday at 5 p.m. and the ride was cheaper than a cab (Lyft almost always is), and there was actually someone to pick me up. A year ago, you'd be screwed. I know you love setting this (and everything else) up as a class warfare thing – and class divisions are a HUGE problem here, believe me – but Lyft isn't a cause. My driver yesterday said he was a "company man" for 27 years, said fuck that and is now a Lyft driver four days a week, from 9 to 9. He takes two hours of personal time every work day and jogs, take photos – he said he loved it, though he might be full of shit, who knows.
